 The Beauty of Teamwork

Montebello Parks and Recreation held its first annual "bundles of Joy, Gifts of Love" drive last month [December, 2007].  Montebello Mayor Pro Tem Rosie Vasquez, an organizer, and many chamber members came together to help make Christmas a lot nicer for some moms and dads from Montebello, Schurr and Vail High Schools.  Every child there received a gift and every mom or dad received a gift from stores in Montebello.

Mayor Bill Molinari recognized Ms. Vasquez and the other city council members, Robert Urteaga and Kathy Salazar, for their support of the event.  The Montebello Fire Department was also recognized as being instrumental in making the event happen.  Montebello School District Superintendent Edward Velasquez encouraged all the kids to continue with their schooling and to work hard despite their adversities.

The Quiet Cannon served a delicious lunch and a Christmas photo was provided by Treasure Image Photography owner Luis Ponce, who said, "I am very excited to be a part of this wonderful program.  It's nice to see all the kids' faces when they see Santa Claus and all the toys."

As printed in Spotlight on Montebello, January - February, 2008.
