About Montebello E-News and “My Montebello”
Announcements
The following
two items were forwarded to me by a Montebello resident.
Dear
Friend,
Some
of California's best wild places are threatened every day by off-road vehicle abuse and
development proposals such as mining and military expansion.
We
need your help to defend these special desert places.
U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein is
considering sponsoring a bill to protect new wilderness in the California
desert... but opposition is mounting.
Contact
Senator Feinstein today and tell her she has your support for new wilderness
legislation.
We must protect these scenic desert wildlands now, before they
become too degraded to qualify for wilderness protection laws.
Please
urge Senator Dianne Feinstein to sponsor new desert wilderness legislation
before it's too late.
We
can't wait. Californians want Senator Feinstein
to lead the way by putting desert wilderness protection in place this year.
Areas that need protection include the Cady
Mountains, Avawatz
Mountains, Soda
Mountains, Slate
Range, as well as important additions to Malpais Mesa,
Golden Valley, Palo Verde and Indian
Pass
Wildernesses.

Thank you for protecting the desert!
Sincerely,
Barbara Boyle, Senior Regional Representative, California/Nevada, Sierra
Club
PS- Senator Feinstein says she wants to protect desert wilderness, but there
are many issues competing for her attention. Please
let our Senator know that Californians support a wilderness bill and it is
needed now by taking this urgent action today.

“The
Smoking Gun”
The
two announcements above brought something to mind which was discussed in an E-NEWS
essay, namely, the significance of involving more people in decision-making.
Note that the Sierra Club representative said that there were “many
issues competing” for Senator Feinstein’s attention. Needed legislation, whatever it might be, bottlenecks in
government because there is too much for legislators to do.
Remember how long it took to pass a state budget here in California?
